What is a Letter of Expreience?

A LETTER OF EXPERIENCE is a document your insurance company can provide upon request which will state your insurance history.

When shopping for car insurance there are multiple discounts a company can provide you with, one of them can be for having previous car insurance. In order to show proof of prior insurance your new insurance company will usually request a copy of your declaration page and/or a LETTER OF EXPERIENCE.

In most cases consumers do not keep all their insurance documents especially there declaration page, therefore a requesting a LETTER OF EXPERIENCE from your previous insurance company will help provide proof of prior insurance to your new insurance company.

If you are shopping for new car insurance and have had prior insurance for the last consecutive 6-12 months a discounted may be applied to your new policy.

The LETTER OF EXPERIENCE will state the amount of time you were insured with that particular company and can also provide information as to any cancellations and/or lapse in coverage as well as any accidents and/or claims reported.

A lapse in coverage can also disqualify you from getting a discount depending on your insurance company and the time of lapse. If you have had a lapse in coverage be sure to notify your agent or broker as they will be able to tell you if you still qualify for the discount.
